The skin has 3 layers; epidermis, dermis, and panniculus.
A panniculus complicates surgery of the morbidly obese, and may remain as a literal "apron of skin" if a severely obese person quickly loses large amounts of weight, which is a common result of bypass surgery.
But before that, Patrick will have his panniculus removed, an apron-like layer of fat around his abdomen.
