paramyxovirus [¦par·ə‚mik·sō′vī·rəs] (virology) A subgroup of myxoviruses, including the viruses of mumps, measles, parainfluenza, and Newcastle disease; all are ribonucleic acid-containing viruses and possess an ether-sensitive lipoprotein envelope. Paramyxovirus A subgroup of myxoviruses that includes the viruses of mumps, measles, parainfluenza, respiratory syncytial (RS) disease, and Newcastle disease. Like influenza viruses, the paramyxoviruses are ribonucleic acid (RNA)-containing viruses and possess an ether-sensitive lipoprotein envelope.
