parity error

An error condition that occurs when the parity bit of a character is found to be incorrect. See parity checking.


parity error [′par·əd·ē ‚er·ər]
(computer science)
A machine error in which an odd number of bits are accidentally changed, so that the error can be detected by a parity check.

(storage, communications)parity error - An error discovered by the inclusion of a parity bit.

It offers protection against parity errors with an I/O and database parity feature.
According to Bob Schultz, chief operating officer at Adaptec, the flawed chips could send incorrect information to the RAID controller, which can, in some cases, lead to SCSI bus hangs and parity errors.
The CRC algorithm can detect error bursts up to 32 bits in length and reports any errors in the same manner as a parity error without requiring changes from the host software.
