parity memory

Memory that uses a ninth bit for parity checking. The checking operation is performed by circuits on the motherboard, not on the memory chips themselves. When a parity error occurs, most computers simply display a "parity error" message, hang up and then must be rebooted. See parity checking.

An added feature of the IBM PC 300 with Pentium Pro Processor is that when parity memory is installed, it becomes Error Correcting Code memory which helps to reduce the chance for error and increase data integrity.
The Series E server with 256K L2 cache, 32MB of parity memory, 1GB hard drive, floppy drive, Business Audio, PCI graphics, Ethernet, dual speed CD ROM and Windows NT 3.
In addition, the server's 8MB to 128MB of parity memory provides the reliability needed for a file/print server or for a multi-user host.
