In sharing the eight-under course record of 64 with a man who went on to become a European Tour winner, Ridden landed birdies on the first six holes and the last two, parring every other hole.
He dropped another shot at the par four 11th when he again failed to get up and down from just short of the green, but then got back to level par with birdies at the 13th and 14th before parring his way home.
