particle-oriented paper [′pärd·ə·kəl ‚ȯr·ē¦ent·əd ′pā·pər]
(materials)
A chart paper that has a magnetic coating which is produced by combining microscopic magnetic flakes with oil to form droplets and then forming these particles into an emulsion that can be applied to the surface of ordinary bond paper or to a clear plastic substrate; the magnetic field of a small-diameter recording head rotates the magnetic flakes so that they absorb or scatter incident light to give a visible dark trace that can also be read magnetically.
