patch cord

patch cord

A specific length of cable terminated at each end with a plug or socket. Patch cords or "patch cables" are typically short, but may come in lengths up to 100 feet or more. Any short cable of any type (telephone, audio, video, LAN, etc.) that has connectors at both ends can be called a patch cord. See patch panel.
