patchouli oil [pə′chü·lē ‚ȯil]
(materials)
A brownish essential oil with strong camphor aroma; soluble in ether, chloroform, alcohol, and oils; derived from dried leaves of the patchouli (Pogostemon patchouly); main components are patchouli alcohol, eugenol, and cinnamic aldehyde; used to perfume toiletries.
