(pharmacology)
C7H6O4An antibiotic derived from several fungi (Aspergillus, Penicilliumspecies); crystalline compound soluble in water and most organic solvents; melting point is 111°C; used as an antimicrobial agent; also appears to be a potent carcinogenic mycotoxin. Also known as penicidin.

Aspergillus terreus is associated with aspergillosis of the lungs and/or disseminated aspergillosis and can produce the toxins patulin and citrinin, which may be associated with disease in humans and animals.
