The 43-member band recently brought home four trophies from the Music Showcase Festival: first place for the Class A Division, the award for outstanding low-brass section, the award for outstanding low-brass section trophies, the one for outstanding percussion section and one for an outstanding musician.
The beauty here was in Smuin's playfulness with his conceit: the instruments were rarely represented literally, and instead, the pounding of the percussion section came vividly to life as aerobic jogging, and the harp materialized as an effervescent Fushille-Burke, wearing butterfly wings.
Estefan, famous for her energetic and fun-filled concerts, is accompanied by a 23 piece band and a percussion section jammed with over 200 rhythm instruments.
