An undifferentiated embryonic structure derived from the genital tubercle that differentiates into the penis in males and the clitoris in females.

Phallus 

a genus of fungi of the order Gasteromycetes. In the USSR the most widespread are P. impudicus, found in forests and brushwood on fertile soil, and P. hadriani, found in sand. The young fruiting bodies of Phallus are ovoid; later their membrane ruptures and the fruit bearer appears, consisting of a long peduncle and a conical, alveolate cap covered with greenish slime that has the unpleasant odor of carrion.

Phalli appeared in force at Rosen as well, popping up everywhere in a gallery set as a cold garden of unearthly delights--these and other sculpted bits of human anatomy (which the artist referred to as "souvenirs") populated an array of flower beds, birdcages, and terrarium-like vitrines, often paired with unexpected found objects and arrangements of mutant flora.
Chichen Itzas and Uxmal's oldest ruins have entire temples and courtyards of phalli coming out of the ground and hanging off the walls-apparently used as waterspouts.
Picasso's erotic sketches are a clear referent, so too the dreamlike transmogrifications of the Surrealists: Knees look like nipples, bottoms like bosoms, noses like phalli.
