In present anticorrosive coating research, great attention is paid to the use of inorganic-organic hybrid sol-gel coatings modified with inorganic particles or extenders for replacement of pretreatments such as phosphatizing.
There are four aspects to the AB interaction in this model: * The combination of grit blasting plus primer provides durable bonds with both the solvent based adhesives; * phosphatizing with or without primer in combination with the aqueous adhesive results in fairly durable bonds; * adhesive 6108 does not withstand the test well when used with phosphatization only; and lastly, * phosphatization with primer and either form of MetalJacket application provide very durable bonds.
On the coatings side, Lord has developed MetalJacket, a new metal treatment and coating system that eliminates zinc phosphatizing and the need for adhesive primers, while providing "whole part" corrosion protection without post-painting.
