The heavy weight of a pile driver that depends on gravity for its striking power and is used to drive piles into the ground. Also known as drop hammer.

Equipment employing a weight (hammer) which strikes a pile or beam, forcing it into the ground; the weight may fall freely, under the action of gravity, or be powered by steam, compressed air, or a diesel engine.
