pillaring [′pil·ə·riŋ] (mining engineering) The process of extracting pillars. Also called pillar robbing; pulling pillars; robbing pillars. (ordnance) The rapid vertical movement of smoke which sometimes results, for instance, from the explosion of a white phosphorus bomb or projectile; the effect is undesirable because it does not produce obscuration over a desirably large area.
