The earliest versions of atom probes only had a pinhole detector, unlike our wide-angled position detector, and so gave an image like a geological borehole in a single dimension.
Last year, Clinton developed its first standard on-line pinhole detector for film and sheet extrusion.
The SHD-4000 is said to be useful in applications where more sophisticated pinhole detectors are cost prohibitive but where product defects of 1 mm or larger cause serious problems.
