pipe thread

pipe thread [′pīp ‚thred]
(design engineering)
Most commonly, a 60° thread used on pipes and tubes, characterized by flat crests and roots and cut with ¾-inch taper per foot (about 1.9 centimeters per 30 centimeters). Also known as taper pipe thread.

A V-cut screw thread, cut on the inside or the outside of a pipe (or on a pipe fitting, coupling, or connector); the diameter of the thread is not constant, but tapers.
