Pistol shrimps, which stun their prey by snapping their claws together to create a deafening 'crack', normally live in the sub-tropics.
The jellyfish are being removed daily from the tank they hatch in - which also houses pistol shrimps, watchman gobies and a panther grouper - and transferred to a special water nursery.
Macginitie, a scientist famous for his studies of marine animals, once told about two pistol shrimp kept in an aquarium in his laboratory: "They were always ready to demonstrate their shooting ability for visitors.
