Pointing

The finishing operation on a mortar joint, without the addition of surface mortar; pressing surface mortar into an existing raked joint. Also, the process of filling a mortar joint after raking out the old mortar and working it to the desired joint profile; carried out for restoration purposes and not part of the original construction.
