A type of air whose characteristics are developed over high latitudes; there are two types: continental polar air and maritime polar air.

Polar Air

air masses formed outside of the earth’s tropical latitudes. The term “polar air” is often used to refer only to mid-latitude air masses; air masses formed at higher latitudes are called arctic air.
