Pood

a unit of weight formerly used in Russia, Byelorussia, and the Ukraine. The pood, which is first mentioned in 12th-century documents, was equal to 40 funty, or approximately 16.38 kg. Although the pood and other units of the old Russian system were abolished in the USSR in 1924, the pood is still sometimes encountered in reports on agricultural produce, chiefly grain.
