For the initial appointment, the protocol includes: * Prerinse with an antimicrobial mouth rinse * Anesthesia as needed (topical or injected) * Ultrasonic scaler * Hand instrumentation * Laser bacterial reduction * Laser coagulation of the treatment site * Postoperative instruction/home care instruction An additional step is added to the appointment protocol in cases requiring multiple visits.
