This rate was achieved on a restricted basis through a 5/8ths choke and no pressure depletion was observed during the test period.
The research programme aims to provide a better understanding of the typical Iranian reservoir - described as "a fractured carbonate or sandstone subjected to pressure depletion in addition to possible gas or water injection" - and to define the most effective ways of improving recovery.
Application of this drilling system has the potential to significantly increase recovery of crude oil volumes, especially from those reservoirs that extensive pressure depletion has been experienced with the recovery of only a small portion of the original-oil in-place ("OOIP").
