Príncipe 

an island in the Gulf of Guinea off the west coast of Africa. Together with the island of São Tomé it constitutes the Portuguese possession of Sao Tome and Principe. Principe has an area of 128 sq km and is formed mainly from basalts. The maximum elevation is 948 m. Santo Antonio is the chief city.
