printer friendly format

    0.05 sec.

Refers to an optional document format on the Web that enables the printing of the page correctly on standard 8.5" x 11" paper. When a Web page is printed as is, text and images may be truncated or not print at all, and poorly located page breaks waste paper. A printer friendly format removes Web site navigation bars and ads and ensures that all relevant information is printed in the appropriate margins with proper page breaks. The format may also eliminate all graphics so that the page can be printed on a text-only printer.

Printer Friendly Example
The New York Times Web site offers a convenient option to ensure that many of its articles will print on any type of printer. Clicking "Printer-Friendly" converts the page (top) into a format (below) without ads and images that is guaranteed to print on even the most basic printer.
