This plant-based fabric--the PPT is produced through the polymerization of propanediol, which is made from corn--is claimed to be both durable and resistant to sunlight, which means it is suitable for use in vehicle interiors. It will enable Tate & Lyle to increase production of value added products and will also supply substrate for the new joint venture, DuPont Tate & Lyle BioProducts, LLC (being constructed adjacent to the facility) which will produce 1,3 propanediol (Bio-3G), the key building block for DuPont(TM) Sorona(R). High temperatures and extreme vacuum conditions during the refining process led to a reaction of the aniline with fatty acids and tryglicerides, which are basic in regular oils, producing two different new families of compounds: fatty acid anilides and esters of the phenyl amino propanediol. |
