Byline: ANI Washington, October 8 (ANI): Researchers are developing a new type of rocket propellant made of a frozen mixture of water and "nanoscale aluminum" powder that is more environmentally friendly than conventional propellants and could be manufactured on the moon, Mars and other water-bearing bodies.
As Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory's Richard Behrens wrote in the January issue of this magazine: "Over the past 20 years I have worked with the Defense Department in the area of energetic material development for use in propellants and explosives .
Five propellants were formed by mixing elements of three different formulas.
