The expansion is in response to increased demand for the product in the Fayetteville, Haynesville and Barnett basins, where 40/70 is the preferred proppant to extract gas from shale reservoirs.
An evaluation of the production performance and the previous fracture stimulation of the well revealed that the proppant used in the initial stimulation had insufficient strength to withstand the closure pressure and therefore the production performance had been compromised as a result.
Saint-Gobain Proppants, which employs about 150 people, has had a ceramic proppant manufacturing facility in the area since 1979.
