psoas [′sōยทəs] (anatomy) Either of two muscles: psoas major which arises from the bodies and transverse processes of the lumbar vertebrae and is inserted into the lesser trochanter of the femur, and psoas minor which arises from the bodies and transverse processes of the lumbar vertebrae and is inserted on the pubis. I chose this pose because it supports the psoas muscle, and everyone can do it. This pose is extremely helpful to the pelvis, as it lengthens the psoas muscle, which extends from the lumbar spine to the upper thigh and commonly contracts during pregnancy. Less psoas (hip muscle) retraction that can enable a reduction in the amount of fluoroscopy required during the case, making it safer for the surgeon and the operating room staff. |
