psoas [′sō·əs]
(anatomy) Either of two muscles: psoas major which arises from the bodies and transverse processes of the lumbar vertebrae and is inserted into the lesser trochanter of the femur, and psoas minor which arises from the bodies and transverse processes of the lumbar vertebrae and is inserted on the pubis.
