Pulaski (pəlăs`kē), town (1990 pop. 9,985), seat of Pulaski co., SW Va.; inc. 1886. It has industries that manufacture textiles, clothing, machinery, metal products, furniture, and trucks. When they return to camp for a break, they groom and sharpen their tools - chain saws, Pulaskis (axes with a grub on the end), Rhinos (shovels bent into a 90-degree angle) and Bosleys (shovels than can be transformed with the turn of a pin into scraping tools). Often the growth forced us to stop, put down our shovels and Pulaskis, and wait for saw crews to hack through the thickets. Picks, shovels and Pulaskis are usually provided, but workers are welcome to bring their own tools. |
