| Ramanujan's discovery led mathematicians to tackle the general question: How can you predict when a quadratic form represents all positive integers? For large positive and negative deviations between observed and calculated data, the penalty no longer follows a quadratic form but rather a logarithmic distribution. He subsequently refined his methods to develop new, subtler invariants that distinguish between smooth manifolds even when they have the same quadratic form and are therefore topologically equivalent. |
