Traditionally, 6/4=3/2 means the quarter note remains constant so that a bar of six quarter notes is equal in overall length to a bar of three half notes. I revised the notation to make the quarter note the basic beat. In particular, I was drawn to "Samba II" (great melody, interesting texture changes, fast rhythmic appeal); "Beguine" (an improvisational adventure, accelerandi and quarter note triplets); "Mambo" (an easier fast piece with a catchy hook); and "Samba III" (the collection's finale, worthy of its placement. |
