Several of the pieces do include dotted quarter notes followed by eighth notes, so a student would need knowledge of counting these types of rhythms before beginning this work.
That means there's three beats in each measure and each beat is the same as a quarter note.
The snare drum can be used to help as an accent for the band or can be used to play straight quarter notes.
