Quercitron

Also found in: Dictionary/thesaurus, Wikipedia 0.02 sec.
Quercitron

the cut up bark (or extract of the bark) of several North American oaks (mainly Quercus velutina tinctoria), used to dye silk and wool yellow. Quercitron contains the glycoside quercitrin, which when boiled with acids breaks down into the sugar rhamnose and the dyestuff quercetin (tetraoxy-flavonol: C15H10O7). Quercetin is in the form of lemon-yellow needles, which are poorly soluble in water.
