An open metal enclosure over cooking surfaces through which air is drawn in from the surrounding spaces, entraining grease, heated air, and odors.

It is true that the primary purpose of such kitchen appliance is to make your kitchen odorless and clean but aside from that the alarm of a range hood can save you and your family from the tragedy of kitchen fires.
