Rawhide

a type of untanned leather, in which the fibers are divided by means of various chemical, fermentative, or mechanical treatments and are maintained in that state by the introduction of greases. According to the type of raw material, a distinction is made between cowhide, pigskin, and so on. Because of its great flexibility, it is used to manufacture harness and saddle articles and various industrial products, such as drive belts and laces. In this connection, rawhide is classified as belting, conveyor, or lace rawhide.
