According to the information from ABB [9], static excitation system UNITROL5000 has the following functions: * Voltage regulator with PID filter (AUTO operating mode); * Field current regulator with PI filter (MAN operating mode); * Reactive load and/or active load droop/compensation; * Limiters for: * Maximum and minimum field current * Maximum stator current (lead/lag) * P/Q under excitation * Voltage-per-hertz characteristics.
These capacitors actually store reactive power and supply it to reactive loads.
