real-time denoting or relating to a data-processing system in which a computer receives constantly changing data, such as information relating to air-traffic control, travel booking systems, etc., and processes it sufficiently rapidly to be able to control the source of the data real-time [′rēl ‚tīm] (computer science) Pertaining to a data-processing system that controls an ongoing process and delivers its outputs (or controls its inputs) not later than the time when these are needed for effective control; for instance, airline reservations booking and chemical processes control.
