Recon
the elementary unit of genetic recombination, or the minimum distance between two points on a chromosome within whose limits recombination is possible. The term was introduced in 1957 by the American geneticist S. Benzer. Subsequent studies on recombination between two closely related mutations in bacteria demonstrated that recombination is possible even between neighboring links in a polymeric chain of DNA, that is, between the closest neighboring nucleotides. As a result, it was revealed that a recon is the same as a nucleotide link in a DNA chain and the term “recon” was no longer used. Want to thank TFD for its existence?
