Reconnaissance in Force
a method of tactical reconnaissance that utilizes an offensive to obtain military intelligence concerning the enemy’s strength, combat formations, disposition of fire means, and other data. Reconnaissance in force is usually conducted when other intelligence methods and equipment are unsuccessful in obtaining the desired information on the enemy and their intentions. Reconnaissance in force is carried out by special subunits reinforced by tanks, artillery, and other weapons. The offensive of the subunits conducting reconnaissance in force may be supported by aviation. As a rule, reconnaissance in force is organized and directed by the unit commander in whose zone it is conducted. Want to thank TFD for its existence?
