red dwarf star [′red ¦dwȯrf ′stär]
(astronomy)
A red star of low luminosity, so designated by E. Hertzsprung; dwarf stars are commonly those main-sequence stars fainter than an absolute magnitude of +1, and red dwarfs are the faintest and coolest of the dwarfs.
