1. English history the local representative of the king in a shire (under the ealdorman) until the early 11th century
2. (in medieval England) a manorial steward who supervised the daily affairs of the manor: often a villein elected by his fellows
3. Canadian government (in certain provinces) a president of a local council, esp in a rural area
4. (formerly) a minor local official in any of several parts of England and the US

In his book, The Learning Leader: How to Focus School Improvement for Better Results, Douglas Reeves stresses that strong leadership is based on the idea "We cannot do it alone.
Trelleborg, through its Engineered Systems business area, has signed an agreement to acquire the American company Reeves Brothers, with about 1,000 employees and annual sales of approximately SEK 1.
His agent comes across a home movie Reeves shot which finds the aging actor unconvincingly (and halfheartedly) performing some wrestling moves in an effort to convince a would-be employer that he could tour with a wrestling freak show.
