(electricity)
An alternating-current voltage used for comparison, usually to identify an in-phase or out-of-phase condition in an ac circuit.

It is superior to single-ended signaling, where the reference voltage is ground and can vary over long distances.
A reference voltage is established halfway between the covered and uncovered transformer outputs.
The internal reference voltage is trimmed to 2 percent to provide very accurate current regulation even with wide variations in input voltage, LED forward voltage and inductor tolerance.
