regenerative cooling [rē′jen·rəd·iv ′kül·iŋ]
(engineering) A method of cooling gases in which compressed gas is cooled by allowing it to expand through a nozzle, and the cooled expanded gas then passes through a heat exchanger where it further cools the incoming compressed gas.
