| The Australian Nursing and Midwifery Council (ANMC) National Competency Standards for the Registered Nurse (2005) were recently used to prepare first year nursing students from the University of South Australia for aged care placements. However, the percentage of new registered nurse hires who are men has grown from 11 percent in 2005 to 15 percent in 2006. Some facilities have just one registered nurse responsible for the care of 200 or more residents, and this is not enough staff to provide this kind of care. |
