(microbiology)
A method for the isolation of nutritional mutants in microorganisms; colonies are grown from a microorganism suspension previously exposed to a mutagenic agent, on a complete medium in a petri dish; a velour surface is used to transfer the impression of all these colonies to a petri dish containing a minimal medium; colonies that do not grow on the minimal medium are the mutants.
