| 39) This took an explicitly liberal turn with the emergence of a journal Res Publica, published in book series format and edited by the political scientist Liu Junning. The new government was called a res publica, or "people's thing," and it was constructed in such a way as to prevent the accumulation of absolute power. They effectively remove the person they are aimed at from the community, hence taking away freedom understood as civitas or participation in the discourse and action of the res publica. |
