These Time Division Multiplexing (TDM) network architectures were built mainly around a 3-tier Synchronous Optical Network (SONET) ring topology. Like the bus, the ring topology uses a single cable, but one that is looped rather than open-ended. To maintain legacy compatibility, the four processors and the two PMC/XMC sites are linked in a ring topology through a PCI-X local bus, running at 64-bit/100 MHz. |
