During the project to recreate the medieval church St Teilo's from Pontard dulais in West Wales at St Fagans, Ray carved his name in Latin on its rood loft.
He was responsible for removing all traces of Catholicism from Stratford's fine Guild Chapel; workmen went in with buckets of whitewash and ruined the medieval paintings, while others broke up the altar and pulled down the rood loft.
