Cooling of the HTS rotor coils will be accomplished by a cryo refrigerator, which will also be supplied by American Superconductor. The vibration in the generator, which is part of the ASEA Brown Boveri (ABB) turbine-generator unit, is thought to have been caused by shorted turns in the rotor coils. The 200-hp HTS motor, which was designed, built and tested by Reliance using HTS rotor coils designed, developed and manufactured by American Superconductor, was operated at 1,800 rpm with the HTS coils at a temperature of 27 Kelvin (-411 degrees F). |
