runtime version

    0.01 sec.
runtime version
(1) A particular version of a runtime library.

(2) Software that is required in order to run an application. It generally refers to a subset of a more comprehensive program that provides limited functions. For example, a database management system (DBMS) that includes an interpreted programming language for writing applications requires that the interpreter software be installed in the user's computer to run them.

However, if users have not installed the full-blown DBMS environment, a runtime version of the DBMS still lets them run DBMS-based applications. The runtime version would provide only the interpreter and can be freely packaged with the application. It would enable the application to run, but it would not let the user modify the program or interact with the data in an ad hoc manner as would the full-blown DBMS software. See DBMS, interpreter, runtime engine, runtime environment, runtime library and runtime error.

By including a free runtime version of WinDVD(R) (InterVideo's industry leading software DVD player) on the CD-R, the discs will play back on virtually any CD-ROM equipped personal computer.
Enhancements in Version 2 include: support for multiple platforms; the ability to create host integration objects that can be reused within Java development tools; inclusion of a runtime version of IBM WebSphere Standard Edition; and integration with IBM's connector solutions, such as MQSeries, which significantly extends the breadth of existing applications that can be supported.
When the port is completed, the companies plan to donate a runtime version of Neutrino free of charge to the Amiga community.
