(medicine)
A saclike arterial dilation communicating with the artery by a relatively small opening.

The risk of rupture of small aneurysms is higher in females (who generally have smaller arteries than males) and in saccular aneurysms.
Saccular aneurysms typically arise at vascular branch points, often arise from congenital areas of weakness in the arterial wall and enlarge over time, and usually do not present until adulthood (12) (Figure 1).
Additionally, there is an approximately 25 % risk of a saccular aneurysm developing at the site of an unrepaired distal aortic dissection.
